RightNow optimistic over increase of pro-life MPs elected

Ottawa, ON (April 29, 2025) – Political pro-life organization RightNow expresses both concern and restrained optimism over the Liberal Party of Canada winning a minority government under the leadership of Prime Minister Mark Carney in the 45th general federal election.

“The Liberal Party under Justin Trudeau had some extreme pro-abortion policies, including the threat of defunding pro-life organizations with charitable status”, said RightNow Executive Director and Co-Founder Alissa Golob.  “However, this promise was notably absent from the Liberal Party of Canada electoral platform, which indicates a potential abandonment of this extreme Trudeau-era policy.”

“While we were happy to see the abandonment of this policy in the platform,” said RightNow President and Co-Founder Scott Hayward, “we are concerned over the retention of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Fund Program which gives tax-payer dollars to radical pro-abortion organizations who instruct women on how to get late-term abortions, with little to no other resources.”

“Unfortunately, Pierre Poilievre and the leadership team for the Conservatives were not able to differentiate themselves enough from Prime Minister Carney and the Liberals on economic or cultural issues, abandoning official conservative Party policies on life issues”, said Golob. “Clearly Pierre had no plan to win government beyond axe the tax, which quickly became staid and redundant after Prime Minister Carney got rid of the carbon tax before the election was called.”

During the 45th general federal election, RightNow was able to help ensure that 90 pro-life Members of Parliament were elected through connecting over 1,100 pro-life volunteers with pro-life candidates.

“We look forward to the increase of the number of pro-life Members of Parliament elected to the House Commons, the largest in the last several elections. We also look forward to these pro-life Members of Parliament utilizing their important voices on the issues of abortion and assisted suicide, regardless of who the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada may be during this upcoming parliament,” stated Hayward.

“I would like to extend my deep gratitude to all pro-life candidates in all political parties who ran for Parliament, whether or not they were successful,” said Hayward, “we continue to focus on building toward a pro-life majority in the House of Commons.”
