RightNow congratulates new Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre

OTTAWA, ON (September 10, 2022) – Political pro-life organization RightNow congratulates Pierre Poilievre on becoming the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada after a hard-fought battle with four other candidates looking to succeed Erin O’Toole in this position.

“We were happy to endorse Pierre Poilievre as our second choice given his commitment to respect Conservative Party policy when it comes to conscientious objection rights for physicians and those who work in the medical field”, said Alissa Golob, co-founder of RightNow, a non-profit organization committed to nominating and electing pro-life candidates.

RightNow sold over 10,000 memberships throughout the leadership campaign, encouraging pro-life voters to rank their ballot with all five candidates. Rankings were based off three criteria: previous pro-life voting records, winnability, and policies and positions moving forward that were based on an interview with the candidate conducted by the organization.

“We appreciate Pierre’s strong pushback against certain narratives often found in legacy media and hope he takes the same approach on social issues, specifically regarding abortion and physician-assisted suicide,” said Golob.

Pierre told RightNow that each member of caucus should absolutely have the freedom to vote according to their conscience on life issues, that he would fight against expanding the current criteria for physician-assisted suicide, and that he would boost supports for women in crisis pregnancy situations.

“Given that Leslyn won more votes and in this leadership race compared to the previous leadership race, we hope that Pierre and his team include Leslyn in an appropriately significant role in his shadow cabinet." said Scott Hayward, co-founder of RightNow. “We believe that this will show a sign of party unity, that the voices of the thousands of pro-life party members will be heard and respected, and that the Conservative family will be more united going into the next general federal election.”
